Healthy and Tasty Almond Milk Smoothie Recipes

Two Low Calorie, Low Carb Recipes for Smoothies Made with Almond Milk

KC Alexander
I recently discovered almond milk as a lower calorie alternative to rice milk. Rice milk was previously the only milk I could tolerate on my sensitive stomach, but I would only indulge in it occasionally due to its high calorie and high carbohydrate content. Then one day in the grocery store, I saw almond milk sitting right next to the rice milk, so I decided to compare the nutritional data. I was excited to find that the almond milk had half the calories and 1/3 the carbs of the rice milk! I now regularly enjoy almond milk smoothies for breakfast (and sometimes dinner when I'm feeling really lazy). I like to add whey protein powder to my smoothies for the extra nutrients and to keep me full longer. I use EAS 100% Whey Protein Powder in vanilla flavor.

Chocolate Strawberry Almond Milk Smoothie

4-5 pieces of ice

1 cup frozen or fresh strawberries

2 scoops of protein powder

1 tbsp of natural peanut butter (I like Skippy Natural. It doesn't separate and doesn't have to be refrigerated.)

1 single serve container of sugar free chocolate pudding (I prefer JELL-O dark chocolate.)

1 cup of almond milk

Put all of the ingredients in a blender with the ice first and the almond milk last. Blend until smooth. Add small amounts of almond milk as needed to facilitate blending.

Yields about 20 fl oz of smoothie (approx. 540 calories)

All-in Vanilla Almond Milk Smoothie

4-5 pieces of ice

2 cups total of every fruit you have in the house (I like to add bananas, skinned nectarines and/or peaches, strawberries, and blueberries. They can be fresh or frozen.)

2 scoops of vanilla protein powder

1 single serve container of vanilla yogurt (I love Activia!)

½ cup almond milk

Put all of the ingredients in a blender with the ice first and the almond milk last. Blend until smooth. Add small amounts of almond milk as needed to facilitate blending.

Yields about 24 fl oz of smoothie (approx. 560 calories)
