Healthy Weight Loss for a Healthy New You

Ralston Heath
People who are overweight have become so due to a lack of education on a healthy lifestyle. Now they have to find a weight loss program for various reasons, and most of those are related to health.

If you are overweight, you are in danger of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, certain cancers, arthritis, and hypertension. Not to mention a lower quality of life, where you cannot go where you want and do what you want without considering your size.

The fast weight loss plans that seem to so common these days just do not provide lasting results. The miracle methods involve pills, drinks, supplements, and food substitutes will not work by themselves. Even though they may provide some weight loss, they will not keep it off nor make you healthy.

Weight loss forever

To achieve weight loss that will last for the rest of your life, you have to change everything about you that concerns the intake and burning of calories. You have to simply take in far less than you do now, and burn off more than you do now.

The key here is that it will be a lifestyle change; you will be on this weight loss program for the rest of your life. There is no "lose twenty pounds" and then go back to what you were doing before. You will have to maintain healthy eating habits as well as healthy activity levels.

Do not starve your self

A secret to permanent weight loss is this: Do not go on a diet! Change your diet, eat responsibly, and reasonably. Trying to live on tofu and eggplant for the rest of your life would be impossible as well as really boring. Try to eat foods that you like, and for those junk foods we all love, eat them in moderation.

Avoid many large meals in a day, pick one meal that you will have as your big meal of the day, and for the other meals eat smaller portions. Have a couple of light snacks during the day to stave off hunger pain, and do not eat for at least two prior to going to bed.

Get up and move

To burn calories you have to move your body. Seems simple and it is, park further away and walk, take the stairs instead of the elevator, do more chores around the house, go swimming, take up croquet, just get some extra activity every day.

If you are too embarrassed about your shape, you do not have to go to a gym or spa. You can set up your own fitness club at home. You do not need any special equipment, you just need some space. Do stretching exercises and some easy calisthenics like jumping jacks and pushups.

Set a daily workout for yourself, as well as the increased activity during the day and you will start to see pounds melting away, as well as start to feel better.
