My mom was wrapping Christmas presents for my sister and I when her chest felt different. She could not explain what it fel like so she said, "my heart did a flip." My sister and I were at a Christmas party with friends at the time, and when we came home mom went to Reynolds Memorial Hospital. The doctors kept her for a few days and scheduled her for a Heart Catherization little did we know it would change our lives and our mom forever.
My mom texted me while I was at school and said, "they are taking me down at 9:30. I love you." That was the last I love you I would get from her in almost a month. The next thing I knew my dad was getting me out of school and he was crying. He would not tell me what was going on. After we picked up my sister dad told us they had to rush mom to Medical Park. While doing the Heart Catherization the doctor got the wire caught and pulled it, cutting her artery in half. She was put into the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. Where she stayed for a long time.
They said when he cut her artery it sent her into a heart attack. My mom was on life support for almost three weeks, they did surgery for 6 hours, and they had to revive her twice. She pulled through; although, they had to give her 3 pints of blood. She was in a coma state for almost 3 weeks. She slept through Christmas, but we were always right beside her. She woke up two days before New Years Eve, so they moved her to step down. She had a few breathing problems but she made it through thanks to Medical Park.
Heart attacks are not always caused by natural causes. My mom has to take pills everyday for the rest of her life because of one mistake. Keep regular checkups, and stay healthy, so this will not happen to you. No it will not happen to everyone, but we did not think it would happen to our mom either. Please be careful when it comes to your heart. A broken heart hurts everyone.
