There are a lot of great things that you can do to help your heart be healthy, such as walking, cycling, jogging and eating the correct foods. But do you know simple things may be affecting your heart and putting it at risk? When you think of things that are risky to the health of your heart, you probably think of hypertension and not getting enough exercise, eating high-fat, processed foods, smoking and high cholesterol, but these things are things that are most common what about the things that you don't know about that is hurting your heart health.

You probably wouldn't think that sugar would be something that would be very damaging to the heart, but sugar can actually be very bad for your heart health. One of the most important things to avoid this problem is to stay away from a lot of high glycemic foods. Sugar can inflame blood vessels which can cause diabetes, obesity, and can be the cause of blood clotting.

A lot of cancer patients with a great heart prior to cancer can get heart damage after cancer treatment are complete. Most people don't know this that when you have cancer and you take radiation to get better that in the mist of getting treatment radiation can damage your heart by damaging the muscles, the valves, or even the coronary arteries. This is something you will need to know if you are dealing with cancer yourself, or a family member, or friend. Being informed about this will make you make your treatment decision better.

Another thing that you might not think of when you think of heart health is reading labels. Reading labels are very important because you need to be aware of what you are eating. We already know that there are good, and bad fats. The good fats are polyunsaturated and mono these fats are great fats to have and very much needed. The bad fats that our body don't need are saturated fats and the worst of them all are trans fats. Bad fats are bad for our overall heath so avoid them at all cost they are not needed for our body to function properly.

Lastly, if you are older in age you need to keep a check of your blood for elevated homo-cysteine and fibrinogen. Even if your cholesterol is in perfect condition this is still something that you might want to ask your doctor to check. Overall if you keep a trim waste, exercise and eat a diet that is rich in fiber then you shouldn't worry to much about your heart health. Note that any form of exercise is better then none at all.
