Heartwarming Holiday and Christmas Traditions

Jane Ganly
My family's two big holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas, are fast approaching! Over the years we have developed some Special Holiday Traditions.

Thanksgiving rolls around first and from the time I was a young teen it was my job to make and bake the pies - from SCRATCH! As my family has grown, to now include Grandchildren, so has the number and varieties of pies that are required to keep this Holiday tradition alive. Starting this year I plan on including my three year old Granddaughter in this wonderful yummy Holiday Tradition. Oh my, this sounds like a new Holiday Tradition is about to be born - Grandma and Granddaughter Pie Baking Day!!

Thanksgiving is not Thanksgiving without my Grandmas Traditional Stuffing. Her recipe has been passed down to me and I have now, over the last several years, been teaching my Daughter-in-Law this wonderful Traditional Holiday Recipe. We double, and double, and then double again the recipe as our family has grown! This has caused some confusion for my Daughter-in-Law, so this year I plan on starting another new Holiday Tradition - using a calculator to get the perfect blend of all ingredients, and hopefully eliminate confusion and frustration. Don't worry Rachel, It's gonna be much easier this year - I PROMISE!! Of course the calculator does not measure up to the oldest Holiday Tradition in our family - the Taste Tester - whom for many Holiday Seasons has been my Son!

Once Thanksgiving has passed we start gearing up for Christmas. A long standing Christmas Tradition in my family is the receiving of new pajamas on Christmas Eve. Red, and Red and White pajamas are favorites, even with the male family members! And we also include new slippers in this Christmas Tradition!

Another Old Christmas Tradition in my family is baking Christmas Cookies. This Holiday Tradition would not be complete unless the youngest family members are present to add the red and green glistening sprinkles to these wonderful Holiday Cookies.

I hope you have enjoyed reading some of my family's Holiday Traditions as much as I have enjoyed telling you about them. Wow, memories are just flooding back and bringing a huge smile to my face. In fact, now that I have put these favorite Holiday Traditions in writing I realize I need to get to the market and start stocking up on my seasonings, flour, and of course, those important Traditional Holiday Red and Green sprinkles. With a new grandson in the family I better get extra!

Happy Holidays From My Family to Yours!
