Hearty Country Supper - Frugal Recipe

Hockey Mom
A friend of mine gave me this recipe years ago and it quickly became a family favorite. Like most stay-at-home moms, I'm always on the lookout for a filling stick-to-your-ribs meal that doesn't cost a fortune or require exotic ingredients that most people do not have in their pantry. I often give this recipe to friends and neighbors so I decided to share on here since everybody seems to really enjoy it.

The ingredients are very simple:
3/4 lb of ground beef or turkey
1 small onion, chopped
4 cups diced cabbage
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp paprika
2 cups milk
hot mashed potatoes

Cook ground beef and onion in a large saucepan or skillet until beef is browned and onion is tender. Drain. Add cabbage, cook and stir for 2 minutes. Sprinkle with flour, salt and paprika and then mix well. Gradually add milk and bring to a boil. Stir and boil for 2 minutes then cover and reduce heat. Simmer for 10 minutes until cabbage is tender. I like to serve it over mashed potatoes. Makes 4 servings.

This recipe is very easy to adjust and doubles well if you have a very large skillet or sacepan. You can also serve it over biscuits if you don't have potatoes. I have the paprika, salt and pepper at the table so the kids can add some extra seasoning if they want. My kids are normally pretty picky so I'm always amazed that they gobble this right up and ask for seconds.
