Heat Anger

Donna Cavanagh
The rain pelted the dry, hot ground
The lightning, like fireworks, lit up the night
The thunder so loud, my dog, LuLu, scurried in panic
And under my bed, she quivered with fright

Yes, this storm was loud and at times scary
We got the tail end; others got it worse
But this morning cool moisture lingered in the air
I'm hoping it will give "heat anger" a way to disperse

We all have sensed that tempers were hot
They became more pronounced as the thermometers clicked higher
The anger scorched so many exhausted hearts
For some, it was impossible to extinguish the fire

I am hoping there is a break with this violent storm
On my back porch, I watched the wind stir the trees
Maybe a dip in the temperatures might eventually follow?
A new view on life might come from a cooling breeze

I do not know if we are in for a "cold spell"
But today, I will remember what it's like to feel the cool air
I think I'll Imagine an autumn day when a sweatshirt is needed
And the cold days of winter if I truly dare

It's true; the summer heat has taken its toll
Manners have seemed to evaporate into the sun
But the winter is coming; and if it's anything like last year
Cabin fever might make a few of us become just as undone

The point of this quick and pitiful verse
The weather is not an excuse to lose control
The seasons will leave us wet, cold, baked or frozen
But Mother Nature should never steal compassion from our soul

Great poem-hope the cooler temperatures here help as well with the anger-I heard people drive faster when it is so hot!
