Heat Yourself Up

I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were cold or hot." Revelation 3:15 (NKJV)

There are two simple pleasures that I enjoy in this life. A Route 44 Sweet Peach Tea from Sonic Drive-ins...and a hot cup of coffee.

Our love for Peach Tea's are something that my daughter Lauren and I have in common. If we're running erands or driving home from school or church, and we near a Sonic, she'll ask to stop. Our Sonic's here in Arkansas offer "Happy Hour" from 2-4 where all drinks are half price. If it's happy hour...she'll even offer to pay for them. We've had some great conversations sitting in the truck, laughing over styrofoam cups and sometimes sharing an order of Mozzerella cheese sticks.

Mike and I spend many Sunday's after church with the Applings. Mike and Yoleah are not only church members where Mike pastor's, but some of our best friends. Many of those Sunday afternoons will wind up with Yoleah and I at the kitchen table visiting over a hot cup of coffee, with our husband's in opposite recliners in the livingroom taking an afternoon nap. The conversations are limitless and I know that I can tell her anything over the top of my coffee cup and expect an honest opinion or advice.

But neither of these drinks is good if they're not really hot or really cold. See, I also love iced coffee and hot tea. But if either of them grow tepid...well I either have to figure out someway to warm them up, cool them down, or I simply throw them out.

God's word says it is the same way with our Christian walk. That it is better to be hot or cold than lukewarm. What good are you to furthering His kingdom if you are lukewarm. Come on, we all know what I'm talking about.

Your Christian walk has become lukewarm.
You're in church on Sunday, in body...but your spirit is somewhere else.
You open the hymnal and sing, but something keeps you from meaning the words.
As the pastor brings the message, your mind wanders or you doodle in the margins of the bulletin.
Instead of your usual phone call, you mail a "Thinking of you" card to a sick friend...no personal note, just sign your name under the pre-written generic message.
Your bible doesn't get opened from one Sunday to the next.

Ever been like that? I have and it's not pretty and it certainly isn't what God wants. If you're in lukewarm mode...make a trip to the pot and heat yourself up. I promise you won't regret it.
