Actor Heath Ledger has been found dead in his apartment, according to the New York Police Department and several news organizations, including CNN and the Associated Press.

The AP reported that Ledger, 28, was found dead by a housekeeper who went to inform the actor that his masseuse had arrived for a scheduled appointment.

Drugs may have been involved, the AP reported.

The Australian-born Ledger is most famous for his role in Brokeback Mountain for which he won a Golden Globe for "Best Actor in a Drama." He also starred in Monster's Ball, The Brothers Grimm and A Knight's Tale.

Ledger played the Joker villain in the newest Batman movie, The Dark Knight, which is set to debut on July 18.

I wrote my perspective on this even though I almost never write about celebrities. It was because I, too, was shocked.

Heath was not the partying type, for this to happen to him is completely shocking. I too heard that this could have been and accidental overdose. Be that the case, he would not be the first person to die like this, and doctors and people will have to watch their medications more closely.

I read a report that he had pneumonia and was having trouble sleeping. Probably thought an extra pill or two might help, spilled the rest. Would YOU kill yourself naked? Probably thought he'd take a nap. Such a complete tragedy. He was only getting going.
