As an obituary, it is obvious I am a huge fan of the late Heath Ledger. Only 2 and a half hours after he was found dead, I was reading my mail and saw the Yahoo caption saying he was dead. Admitttedly I thought it to be a joke, another 2 hours later and I realised it was true. I had a lot to think about, really. It was only a week ago when I was at the end of my own proverbial tether. I felt, myself like giving up. I had relationship issues, and terrible family upheaval and truly wanted to throw in the towel. I sat with the unusual comfort of a glass of wine and cried into the bottom of it. Then I switched on the television and guess what was on? A Knight's Tale! So I watched it for maybe the fifth time. I laughed the whole way through at Ledgers dry humour that smacked of moral and personal indignation. I cried when he went to see his father at Cheapside (of course seeing for he fifth time I knew he was going to be caught), and he wasn't William Thatcher to me, he was Heath Ledger, because that is how I had built him up in my mind. Sensitive, gentlemanly and eloquent. Well then, I turned off the television after that, feeling altogether a little lighter in spirit. The irony is that in his own capacity, he reached out and helped me in a hard time, but no one knew he could be in the same position and not having A Knight's Tale to make him laugh, just a little at that crucial moment. Dear heavens had anybody known? Well, all I can say now is that he did me a huge favour and that time of my life is one I won't forget easily. It just saddens me so much every time a talented young person takes their life and doesn't have the chance to change it...there are so so many out there. Don't give up and don't give in, there is always A Knight's Tale to lift you up.
