It has been my observation through the years, as far as I am aware, that no hymnal that exists today has songs that deal specifically with the topic of Hell or with Heaven and Hell combined and uses the word Hell. We do, however, sing hymns that deal with sin, the day of judgment, salvation, just to name a few related topics. At this time, I am in the process of writing such a hymn.
My question to you is:
What are your thoughts on this and what are some ideas that should be expressed in the hymn?
Please respond here to this section. I will check everyday to see what you have written.
Thank you and may God bless you.

Post a CommentI highly encourage you to write it! It's important to talk about, but I am sure that if there is no hymn that deals specifically with the tremendous suffering of hell, it's probably because talking about hell is an extreme. You don't go up to somebody and say, "Hey, so where do you think you will go?" And then they say, "Hell." Nobody will say that. In their right mind, they will all want to go to heaven, and those who think they have lived an extremely poor life will not believe that there is either or that there is no chance for them to make it into heaven, so they will believe that there is no hell just to be safe. Jesus even discussed it in Luke 12:4-5. This is a topic that needs to be discussed.

Thank you both for your comments and I encourage others to add more. I also want to add to what I wrote above, and, that is, the hymn will be like other invitational hymns warning about the dangers of Hell and encouraging the non-believer or erring Christian to get right with God before death comes knocking at the door.
It is very interesting to note that there is not one invitation to mankind to go to Gehenna hell. As it has been already stated that hell was prepared for the devil and his angels. I think that sure be apart of a hymnal.
If we sing a hymn with the word "hell" I would hope that it would either express the fact that the Lord came to rescue us from their and keeps our hearts safe from there as we put our faith in Him or that we would be expressing a desire to help others find the Lord and stay out of there. Hell was created for the devil and his angels and Christians should be forever grateful that because of the work that Jesus did on the cross, we are not handed a sentence that includes an eternity there.
