What the Woof Music/2002

"Heaven" is the second album released by the American music duo of Joe LaMay and Sherri Reese. This duo refers to their music as American, but the music is more fitting to the time when mountain music was popular and the genre was called Country/Western and Bluegrass. A time when Bill Monroe, Hank Williams Sr., and The Carter Family ruled the radio airwaves.

As with their first release "Maryville" this album contains 14 tracks. Once again Joe LaMay and Sherri Reese wrote seven of the 14 songs. And once again the duo has included a tune by folk music master and Grammy Award winning music legend Bob Dylan.

Rochester, New York's favourite Irish music duo brothers John and Joe - otherwise known as The Dady Brothers - lend their musical talents; as well as, their studio to the music of Joe LaMay and Sherri Reese.

"Heaven" is a stripped down acoustic album. The vocals are clear with no distortions, electronic manipulations, or loud noise.

Joe and Sherri use the same instruments that were used when this style of music was popular. Listening to this album is as if Joe, Sherri, and their fellow musicians were right there in the room with you. Or as if you had joined them at one of those weekly folk singing sessions where there are no microphones, electronic instruments or amplifiers and everyone joins in on the fun. There is no campfire, but it's the next best thing.

As fitting an old style country bluegrass album "Heaven" contains songs of love, death, loss, and the odd spiritual tune. The album cover reflects the subject matter of some of the music within; the cover is a view of a cemetery.

While living in Rochester, New York LaMay and Reese met while attending a weekly folk singing session. This duo found that they not only enjoyed playing music together; but that their voices were perfectly suited for each other and to the style of music that they play. The duo became partners in life and in music. Joe and Sherri now make their home in the land of the blue grass, horse racing, and horses. Kentucky.
