Not Chocolate Rain, but Just as Addictive

Heavy Rain

The story of Heavy Rain is told from several characters perspectives. Each have personal reasons for wanting to take down a criminal, known as the "Origami Killer". The game can have different outcomes form each action you take, this can be an advantage/disadvantage. It's possible for your character to die, but the plot will continue as you play through the story. You play four main characters. Scott Shelby, Madison Paige, Jayden Norman and Ethan Mars. Scott Shelby is a Private Investigator.

He is investigating all the murders to track down the origami killer. Madison Paige, a Journalist finds herself involved with finding the killer, after a chance encounter with Ethan Mars. Jayden Norman, a recently assigned FBI agent, who struggles with addition and cracking the case of the Origami Killer. Ethan Mars, an architect who must fight to save his son's life.

Ethan's son, Shawn Mars, is kidnapped by the Origami Killer. Ethan will go through hell and back to save him, this is where the game tagline "How far will you go to save someone you love?" comes from. Everyone you play has their own inner struggles. Ethan having the worst of them all, before the kidnapping his son other son died in an accident. Ethan tries to save him by attempting to shield Jason (the other son) from an on-coming car. As a result, Jason does not survive and Ethan goes into a coma.

When he comes out of it, he is plagued with guilt, along with occasional blackouts. Trust me, these blackouts will come during the weirdest times.. Once Ethan becomes aware of his son's disappearance, the game really begins. This is a new game, so id like to not give away too much; instead of going through each back story, which will give too much away ironically. I'll tell you the good, the bad and the ugly of Heavy Rain.

First off, let me explain why its called Heavy Rain. The reason its called "Heavy Rain" is because the serial killer drowns his victims in rain water, only striking when its, you guessed it, raining. Its so nice to see a game title that matches the story, right? Now, lets talk about the pros and cons. Some of the pros are the crisp, realistic graphics and approach to game play.

Think of it like a point and click adventure only your controlling it with the buttons on your ps3 controller. You must time on screen commands, these vary from knocking on a door to other gestures. This can also apply to fights in the game, if you miss a command you will be hit - you have 6 different ways to play the whole game, with different endings. One extremely entertaining thing is Jayden's glasses. He carries a black pair of sun glasses, that is actually an advance computer built inside. The system is called ARI, which records data, holds files and goes into a type of x-ray vision. Our first introduction to the power of the glasses , would be near the begging as Jayden sits in a lobby.

They introduce a small mini game you play while you wait. God, I wish I had these glasses. The game does have a few cons, as you play you will notice plot holes that are never explained. At times it can be difficult to control the character, walking very slowly is needy to get them looking the right way. The camera angle system is a bit fussy, which , personally makes me dizzy. All in all, Heavy Rain is interesting with a deep story line from all character angles. I highly recommend it.

when i played the demo, it glitched with an ear shattering screech when i walked behind an ambulance truck.
