Heidi Klum Jumps on Board to Help Brittany Spears, but Why?

Brittany Spears. The name evokes quite a lot of emotion these days. Even those who do not follow the entertainment news know who she is by this point, and almost everyone you ask has some sort of opinion on the singer. Spears is a true wild child, and the ready access the media is allowed to her every move allows for the most intimate details of her life to be paraded across the front pages and front headlines like so much dirty laundry. There are those who feel sorry for her, and there are those who cannot stand to hear her name. But even those who don't like the utterance of "Spears" in their company have no shortage of things to say about her and her life.

What is unique in this case is that it's not just the public who has an opinion. Celebrities have crawled out of the woodwork to comment on the star, most recently Heidi Klum, announcing that she would happily open her home to Brittany Spears, should she receive the call. She's jumping on a great big bandwagon of celebrities who have determined to undertake the role of caretaker/foster parent for Spears. Others include Rosie O'Donnell and Julia Roberts. What makes these celebrities so set on helping the wayward young mother?

Perhaps it is the desire to protect Spears from herself or from the media. Perhaps they themselves had wandering, wild youths and are making an attempt to save themselves by saving Spears. Brittany's partying side is not unknown to many celebrities whose childhood and young adulthood were spent with too much money and too much access to alcohol. Others, such as Drew Barrymore, have recovered from their wild youths. Heidi Klum's own youthful exuberance was halted and fixed, and she is now the happy mother of three children.

Perhaps the maternal side of these celebrities come out. Both Rosie O'Donnell and Julia Roberts have children of their own, raised in the public eye. Maybe they know what it is like to try and raise children while every move is analyzed. Maybe they know what it's like to be young and rich and have everyone watching your every move. And maybe they want to spare Spears some of the same, or at least protect her from the most overt of it.

Maybe it's concern over her safety. Rosie O'Donnell has speculated that it would be easy for Spears to "fall" in the same manner as Princess Di...chased by those who wish to photograph and monitor her actions 24 hours a day. In order to protect her from the media, an estimated $25,000 was spent to move her from her home to a psychiatric hospital. The paparazzi pose a very large threat to Spears. Spears is also a threat to herself. She has been placed under conservatorship, as she has been deemed incapable of caring for herself.

And, of course, the cynic asks if perhaps these celebrities are only offering their homes and their hearts to Spears out of personal interest. All three have fallen out of the public eye in recent years, and maybe this is a way to revamp interest by using Spears newspaper-moving name.

It is clear that Spears has plenty of places to go, and plenty of resources at her disposal, should she choose to use them. Whatever the reason.
