Heidi Montag Tries to Channel Britney Spears in Nude Outfit for Miss Universe Performance

Showing just about as much skin as she did for 'Playboy', Heidi Montag strutted her stuff on the Miss Universe stage in a nude bra and pants suit reminiscent of the one Britney Spears wore for her "I'm not a little girl anymore" performance at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. During that performance, Britney Spears ripped off a black suit to reveal a nude bodysuit and crystal-covered outfit that almost made it appear like she was really nude at first. But while Heidi Montag would love to stir up the same controversy that Britney Spears' nude-colored outfit did in 2000, I sadly think Spencer Pratt will be one of the few applauding her performance at the Miss Universe pageant.

If seeing Spencer Pratt carrying the same worn-out 'Playboy' magazine around (and pretending to make out with it) as if he's more interested in it than his actual wife wasn't enough to make you sick, I can't imagine how long we'll have to hear him gush about Heidi Montag's Miss Universe performance. Heidi Montag's performance did conjure up another of Britney Spears' recent performances, as well: her 'Gimme More' performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.

That was my first thought when I saw Heidi Montag rip off a black jacket to reveal her completely nude-colored outfit with odd black stripes on it (perhaps producers wanted it to be more obvious that she wasn't topless?), but she actually did manage to move around a little more than Britney Spears. Still, you have to wonder about just how nervous the Miss Universe producers were about her performance, considering that part of Heidi Montag's gyrations were covered up with a montage of the Miss Universe contestants. They didn't have to worry about her flubbing her lyrics up, considering that she had to be lip-synching, but I guess they could have had a disaster of Ashlee Simpson proportions on their hands if something would have went wrong (not that Heidi Montag would have cared; it would have just gotten her even more attention).

But although Heidi Montag's performance at the Miss Universe pageant was lackluster, she did manage to temporarily steal the spotlight from Miss Universe herself, Stefania Fernandez (although this was only because Heidi Montag's performance was before Stefania Fernandez was crowned Miss Universe). I'm sure Heidi and Spencer will both see this performance as a great success, and they'll both continue to convince me that the two of them are so ridiculous that they have to be Sacha Baron Cohen in disguise.

So even if she was the only "celebrity" that they could get to perform at the Miss Universe pageant, congratulations to Heidi Montag for doing what she does best: staying in the spotlight for not doing much of anything.
