Heinz 57 Best Dogs & People

Hannah
Ever since President Elect Barack Obama made that comment about himself being a mutt when referring to a dog they may choose, I have been thinking a lot about it, and decided to write this little article about us "Mutts" and how proud we are to be one!

I know I read some comments and articles written by others that were anywhere from upset to outraged. All I can say is what is your problem? I think the moment Barack Obama said his reference to being a mutt; he truly became human to me. Quite frankly, I thought it was adorable. Not only that, but I think it was an extremely clever way for him to settle the controversy over whether he is white, black, bi-racial, striped, polka dot, or whatever.

Growing up in the 50's and 60's it was a very common thing to be said that one was Heinz 57 when referring to our ethnicities, background, culture etc. I NEVER saw anybody insulted or taken back by this statement, it was always said in fun, and everyone laughed. It was an easy and cute way of saying I am a blended individual with many wonderful things about me. It was never used in a way to insult anyone.

As everyone has always known the best dog gone dog in the world is the mutt. He carries the best of all the breeds that make him up. There are millions of us mutt lovers in the world, and wouldn't trade them for anything. For whatever reason they always seem to get the best traits from each of the breeds they are made up of. And as far as being cute, sorry pure breads you just can't stand up to, the all loving, oh so adorable mutt, no matter how hard you try.

So, what does this all mean? It means whether it be people, or dogs, those who are made up of a varied background have the best of everything. So go ahead call me a mutt, and I will say thanks, I am proud to be German, English, and Native American, and I am that much better for it!

*God Bless our new President, and may he guided to serve all people in a way that will carry this nation to a more prosperous, and tolerant future.

I just reread my comment, and in case it wasn't clear..I agree with you and as I said, I'm from the loyal opposition to Obama.

I'm a dyed in the wool Republican, but also a Mutt, french German and Native American. I think you really need to have a narrow life if you're offended by someone calling themself a mutt. There are so many things said and not said in politics, this is an effort to grasp at straws.
