HEIRESS- HUGUETTE CLARK - Part II

Even though Clark only served one scandal ridden term, he was a vain man and he demanded that he continue to be called Senator Clark. He took the money he had made in the West and moved East with his second wife Anna and their two daughters Andree and Huguette. William Clark had decided that New York Society was the place to be.

While New York Society eventually accepted the Clarks they were not "old money" nor were they cultured and refined. William Clark struck it rich prospecting out West in the copper mines. Their story has a similarity to the movie "The Unsinkable Molly Brown starring Debbie Reynolds. The Browns are snubbed by Denver society but readily accepted by European royalty.

The Clarks home had 121 rooms a Turkish bath and its own railroad that brought coal straight to the home; there was nothing that Clark could not afford though neighbors and friends thought the home gaudy. They say money can buy anything and in time William Clark's money bought friends.

Andree, Huguette's older sister died from meningitis at the age of seventeen leaving Huguette devastated. But life had to go on or did it; Huguette would forever feel the loss of her sister. Huguette entered New York Society in the "Roaring Twenties" in flapper fashion. She attended the prestigious Miss Spence's School; for Girls in Manhattan which still exist today. Some of the school's famous alumni include; Elizabeth Montgomery, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jade Jagger.

William Andres Clark died in 1925 leaving Huguette, her half-sisters and half-brothers from his first marriage $300 million dollars.
