Work from home. Doing your work from home cuts down on air pollution that comes from the burning fuel in your car. When you work from home you are a just a few feet away from all your work resources.
Save documents and files on CD or flash drives rather than printing them out on paper. Don't waste unnecessary paper by printing out documents that you are just going to put in a fold and put on a shelf where they are just going to collect dust. Instead burn your files and document to CD or a flash drive that way you save space, save paper (trees), and make your files portable.
If you have some empty ink cartridges don't throw them away, recycle them. Now days they have ink refill kits that you can use to refill your old cartridges up to 5 or 6 times. Or if you don't want to do that you can sometimes send the cartridges back to the ink company. I know HP provides you with a postage paid envelope each time you buy ink so that you can return the empty cartridges.
Instead of sending faxes, use your scanner. Most computers have the capability to send faxes from the computer's desktop. With the help of a scanner you can simply scan the document and send the fax using your computer rather than wasting paper.
During the day open your blinds and enjoy the sunshine rather than using lamps to lighten up your space. You would be surprised at the number of people that use lamps and ceiling fans for light during the daytime. Take the time to enjoy some natural lighting.
When you are not using your equipment such as printers, scanners, monitors, ect. turn them off. There is no need to waste electricity. You can turn your equipment back on as you need them.
When you take a break from your computer, use your hibernation function. Computers burn a lot of energy especially if you are the type that likes to keep your computer on all day. Why not try hibernating your computer so that when you get ready to use it again it will restore back to the state you left it in without burning unnecessary electricity.
Now Earth Day only comes around once a year, but that does not mean that you should only take part in these green techniques on that day only. You should be using these techniques on a daily basis to cut down on some of your business expenses as well as show mother earth that you appreciate her.

Post a CommentHi Latoya,
You listed at least one green idea I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else: "Save documents and files on CD or flash drives rather than printing them out on paper." I tend to do this, but it's nice to see you promoting it as another way to "go green." Thanks for the tips!
Great advice, thanks!
