Help for Cat Clawing Woes!

Cats can be very temperamental characters at the best of times. They can become very mean and evil spirited on the bad days that they have. We see this when the claws come out and attack anything that is in their path. It does not matter if it is a human or an inanimate object. By learning about your feline companion's behaviour you can discover ways that can change the clawing behaviour to one that is far more desirable. Here we will look into why a cat claws everything that they come into contact with.

A lot of people are not aware that a cat's claws are one thing that keeps on growing. They never stop! With this being said it only makes sense that they claw so much. The clawing that they do is the way that they keep their claws trimmed down somewhat.

Now that we have a bit more understanding of why they do this, we can look into what we can do about some of the destructive clawing behaviours that a cat has. Some people run to the veterinarian's office and have the cat declawed, this is an option, but not something that I would recommend. When a cat's claws are removed they are losing the biggest defence mechanism that they have. This means that if they were to go outside and encounter an enemy animal and be attacked they would have no means of protection.

There are other things that a person can try to encourage the cat to venture towards that scratching post. Some sound a bit silly, but silly has been known to be successful. Some people have tried sprinkling powdered chicken bouillon onto the scratching post. No word of a lie, but it has worked!

Now that you have found a way to get the cat to the scratching post you can go about the task of making the areas that they used to scratch less appealing to them. Lemon juice and aluminum foil are both items that can be used to cover these areas. Neither of them are something that a cat particularly cares for. Before using either method above, make sure that the places have been cleaned to remove any smell of cat that can still be present.

By using some of these easy tips you will soon be free of the cat clawing problem that has been bothering you. With the mission finally accomplished, you can breathe a sigh of relief.
