Help from Divine Sources

Above & Beyond

Janice Meyer
The bleak days and nights in Haiti are getting longer. More dead bodies are being found, and so there are more bodies to bury. Additional volunteers are going to Haiti to help in the rescue and care efforts. More food, water and medical supplies are being sent as the urgency for them does not let up. There are volunteers from our country (U.S.) and from a long list of other countries arriving in Haiti on a daily basis.

Here in our small town in Indiana, our church has finally spoken out about doing something for the people of Haiti, I am not sure if they are planning a monetary collection, or a collection of clothing and unperishable food. Either one would be appropriate in this small country that was extremely poor before the earthquake, and now the country is devastated. The homes of the people, and other types of buildings were not built to the standards we know in the U.S. Thousands of homes could not withstand the quaking earth, and so they are left as piles of rubble. These structures are not fixable, and would have to be replaced by homes made of new material.

About one year ago, we had been deluged with snow up to early February. The snow then proceeded to melt, but soon after, we received torrential rains for a period of time. We are in the area of the Tippecanoe River, and my daughter and her husband live 'on the river.' They have a nice home there that is built quite high up from the river according to most standards. There is an ordinance in effect that new homes must be built at a prescribed number of feet above the ordinary river level. Their home is built above that level, but the water came up and threatened to enter the home. Also, their septic system was almost under water, which is not a good thing. We welcomed them to our house to stay until the water receded. They stayed with us at two different flooding times, for a few days. They were always anxious to go back home, but we encouraged them to stay with us until the river crested.

Miraculously, the roaring river did not get into their home. It came up about one block from the floor before it receded. As we always do, our entire family and friends turned to the Lord in prayer. I know those prayers were of great benefit. Nature is fierce, and man is not always able to win the battles set before him. So far this year, we have not had as much snow as we had last year at this time, however, it is raining after the snow is almost gone.
Speaking of prayers, we know a young woman who is a close friend of my daughter, and she is also a registered nurse. She is planning to travel to Haiti and help with the medical needs of the injured, the sick and other needs. She is going with a group of other nurses. Please pray for all of them.

The message I want to get across is this: If you can't afford to send monetary help, or unperishable food, clothing and other needed items, send some prayers up to God in Heaven on behalf of the Haitian people and their country as a whole. If you are not of the Christian faith, send your pleas to your God and ask that He take care of the Haitian population, especially the children. They do not understand why all of this terror and devastation is happening.

Praying that the peace of God will help them understand as we do our best to humanly help.

I agree with everyone else here Janet. Thank you for saying this with such clarity and conviction. We can at least afford to pray on their behalf. Well done Janet. You are a God-send to AC and to the poor, innocent victims in Haiti! : - )

hello janet is my mom.. Amen Jamie H. Jameson, come quickly Lord Jesus.. Very good article... Yes, God is in control of the weather not satan... If it did flood our house that was God's will for us, I firmly believe that and understand that.. He is still God no matter what happens... There is a season and time for everything.

My prayer is for Christ to return - THIS is the ONLY answer for the people of Haiti and the people of the whole world, and that Return is imminent.

Some persons, not educated accurately in the Bible, interpret tragic events on a large scale such as this as an act of God as retribution. That is a satanic evaluation. It is not true...
