Just like us, shyness occurs in dogs and is among the many characteristics and traits inherited. Shyness around dogs is a common thing which can be more acceptable in some dogs than others. Although a shy dog can be sweet, loving, and affectionate, they are also be fearful around other dogs, people in public places that can lead to an improper social dog behavior development if it is not dealt. A shy dog can become over-protective, be undemonstrative, and give signs of aggressiveness. Shyness in dogs can be reversed and overcome. The signs of shyness in dogs

If your dog is defensive, uneasy, fearful or aggressive around other dogs, other people and in public places, although it is bad behavior; your dog may not be a bad dog after all, but perhaps, just trying to deal with its shyness. Signs of shyness in dogs also include the constant barking and the constant growling. Other signs of shyness in dogs include uncontrollable panting and uncontrollable pupils. Shy dogs prefer to be left alone; whereas being around other dogs, other people and in public places could make them grumpy and very unpleasant to be around. If you're having difficulty in properly introducing your dog to other people and other dogs, it could indicate that your dog has forms of shyness. A dog having forms of shyness will not interact with others but will prefer to look for a spot to be left alone instead.

The causes of shyness in dogs

Inadequately trained dogs may be the first root that causes the shyness in dogs. Shyness in dogs is a reflection of their self-confidence. Dogs with inadequate training will have limited resources when their involved in social activities which can lead to a lack of self-confidence that results in many forms shyness. Inadequate training of your dog includes the improper dog behaviors and dog matters in the different situations, environments, and interactions. This can cause your dog to not know how to introduce himself toward others dogs and other people that can cause aggression on these situational encounters. It can also cause your dog to not have the proper skills to play with other dogs which is a important aspect needed for a dog's social development.

A dog that is adequately trained will know all the basic dog commands. The basic dog commands will allow the dog to introduce and play with others properly and playfully. The basic dog commands are to sit, to stay, to come, and to heel. The sit and down, the sit-stay and the down-stay are commands that are often used to prohibit aggression with other dogs. An adequately trained dog will have an easy-going temperament that does not bite. They should have good listening skills to obey their master immediately when their name is called upon. An adequately trained dog will give the dog its self-confidence to introduce, interact and play with others which will eliminate all forms of shyness.

The other cause of shyness in dogs is the improper socialization. Dogs that are improperly socialized are vulnerable to inherit bad dog behaviors that lead in the seclusion from other dogs, dog groups and from the companionship of human presences and activities. Dogs that are improperly socialized are left to be alone in the house or in the yard for long periods at a time. This can causes dogs to relate back to their ancestors wild characteristic and traits for its maturity, growth and development and become defensive, aggressive and territorial. Dogs with forms of shyness will carry on these characteristics and traits which is often their only available resort.

Treatments of shyness in dogs

To properly socialize your dog; a lot of time and effort will be needed. This is just one of the many mandatory aspects as a dog owner to ensure the proper dog behaviors and development. Make sure your dog gets plenty of interaction with other dogs and other people. Having frequent parties with friends, family and other pet owners will encourage a proper social behavior. Make sure your dog gets introduced to lots of public areas and places where pets are allowed. This would include parks, beaches, playgrounds and all outdoor recreations and events. This will help your dog get familiar to different situations as it arises and will help to overcome the fear that is associated with the shyness in dogs.

Whether your dog is a puppy or an adult, shyness in all dogs can be overcome. Depending on the difficulty and how severe the form of shyness is in your dog, it is recommended to check with your veterinarian in dealing with the trait. There may be medical conditions your dog may have such as deafness, orthopedic problems or temper syndromes that can be the cause on why your dog isn't interacting with other dogs and other people. You may also want to consider enrolling your dog into an obedience training courses that will properly develop the social behaviors and social matters in your dog. Shy dogs can often be mistaken as a bad dog which is not the case. Shy dogs are loving and caring and are just seeking the proper and adequate attention. A positive attitude with the support of friends, family and other pet owners will encourage the socialite right out of your dog.
