Help in Haiti Even If You Can't Donate Money

Donate Items that Are Needed If You Can't Donate Money

Stacy Hensley
Many of us are struggling financially and may not have extra money to donate to those affected by the earthquake in Haiti. There are ways that you can help without donating money.

Help in Haiti Even if You Can't Donate Money-Food Donations

Many organizations are taking food donations to transport to Haiti earthquake victims.

Canned Foods-Spam, Vienna Sausages, vegetables, beans, fruit, and canned meats are some of the canned food items that can be donated. Most of us have at least a few of these items in our cabinets or pantries that we can donate.

Other food items-peanut butter, pasta, rice, bottled water, and canned or powdered milk are other items that can be donated even if you can't donate money.

Help in Haiti Even if You Can't Donate Money-Basic Medical Supplies

Many of us have unopened items in our medicine cabinets that can be donated to help those in Haiti.

Bandaids/bandages
Alcohol or alcohol pads
Peroxide
Antibiotic cream
First aid tape
Over-the-counter pain relievers for adults or children
Antibacterial hand gel

Help in Haiti Even if You Can't Donate Money-Personal Hygiene Items

Did you get a ton of gift baskets for Christmas that you will probably never use? Donate any unopened bottles of shampoo, shower gel, hairbrushes, combs, or bars of soap. These are things that you won't miss, but the people in Haiti need these items desperately.

Help in Haiti Even if You Can't Donate Money-Baby Items

When my kids were little friends and family bought up so many packs of diapers that the babies would be in the next size before we could use up all the unopened packs. There are babies in Haiti that need things like diapers, wipes, powdered baby formula, juice, baby blankets, and baby food. If you have any of these things in your home and can donate them, it will make a big difference in the lives of these babies.

Help in Haiti Even if You Can't Donate Money-Other Items

Many of the people in Haiti are now homeless. Some are making tents with things like blankets, sheets, and rope, while others are living and sleeping on the streets. You can help by donating blankets, sheets, wash cloths, flashlights, and batteries of any size.

Help in Haiti Even if You Can't Donate Money-Donate Your Time

Most of us can't go to Haiti and personally help the people there, but we can still donate our time. All the organizations that are taking donations of items need people to help separate and pack the items that are donated for the people in Haiti. Volunteer a couple of hours of your time to help get the items packed and ready for transport. This may seem like something small, but a lot can be accomplished in a short amount of time.

You can make a difference for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti without any money. Imagine how many items there would be if everyone just donated one or two of the items that are needed.
