Help for Haiti in the QCA

Iowa Quad-Citians Lending a Hand

Miss Jayme
The recent disaster in Haiti has sparked a wave of generosity all across the United States. From all corners, donations are pouring in. This includes many Iowans from the Quad-City area.

Stanley Consultants Charitable Foundation, a non-profit group, has pledged $50,000 to the Red Cross International in hopes it will help. The foundation was started in 1982 by the Stanley Consultants company in Muscatine, Iowa.
Other information regarding this company can be found by visiting their website.

With even higher hopes of helping, Deere & Co. out of Moline announced that their charity organization, the John Deere Foundation, will be donating an additional $250,000 to the Red Cross International. This is in addition to their annual donation of $250,000. They will also be matching employee donations up to $1,000. For more information on this donation, check the Deere & Co. news site.

For our QCA music lovers, the River Music Experience in Davenport will be holding a charity concert for Haiti relief on January 26th. This is all the wonderful idea of a 12 year old named Kellen Myers of Davenport, who just wanted to help. The show is hosted by St. Paul the Apostle Church and School and will be held at Mojo's from 6-8 p.m. All donations will be made at the door and will benefit relief funds for immediate needs in Haiti. Visit River Music Experience for more information on this event.

Some area museums are anxious to help as well. The Figge Museum in Davenport will be running a week-long initiative. All admissions profits made the week of January 18th through January 24th will be given to the American Red Cross. To find out admission prices and hours of operation, click here. Your attendance is all thats needed to help the Haitian victims.

Keep in mind, monetary donations are not the only ones needed. Meals From the Heartland, out of Des Moines (outside the QCA), jumped at the chance to help supply the Haitian victims with food. Over 2 million meals from last fall's packaging were shipped to Haiti and distributed. Check here to help and read more about their efforts.

Even in the smallest corners of Iowa, people are wanting to help. If you feel you need to do something, there are options. One of the most revolutionary and popular ways of donating has been to text it. You can text "Haiti" to 90999 and it automatically donates $10.00 to the American Red Cross for Haitian relief. The amount will appear on your next phone bill. This is a quick and easy way to help. If you'd like to donate directly to the Red Cross you can visit their website or phone 1-800-REDCROSS.
