Help for Parents for Keeping Healthy Kids

Tips for Keeping Your Kids Healthy in School and Out

Mrs.Rogers
School is almost ready for your children to start again, but are you ready for all that goes with sending your child back into school? Alot of times there are changes that have to be made, tips that need to be remembered, and tools for you to implement in your home to keep your children thriving and healthy as they go back and forth to school.

I like to think that my kids are going to follow all the habits we have at home, especially when they are not at home, but lets face it, that is not always how it is. I have taught my children ways of staying healthy, being that I am diabetic, it is one of my life's goal anyway. Sweets, I have learned , do not have to be an enemy of mine or my children, neither does snacks or treats. If you moderate what you eat and you teach your children about moderation, it will be beneficial to all of you.

I like most parents make sure my children are getting the necessary things while in school, things like proper nutrition, proper hygiene, and proper care. You can get active and go to your child's school, and get yourself a list of the meals your child eats each and every day, so you can know for yourself if your child will be eating it, and if not, you can have them something from home to eat on that day. If your children are finicky eaters this is a good ideal, because we certainly do not want our children to go hungry. What better way to ensure our children will get what fuel, (food), they need to achieve.

I always give my children hand sanitizer, pocket size to carry with them during school hours, because sometimes they are not given adequate bathroom breaks, and I really hate to think they do not get a chance to wash their hands before they put something in their mouths.

Another thing I tell my children is to make sure never to share things like hats, combs, brushes, lip glosses, make up, or any other item they put on themselves. This is really smart to tell girls especially, they do this more so then boys. It is a "girl thing", I guess.

Remind your children of the importance of not eating or drinking from their friends. Tell them of all the social disease and problems that can happen to them. Things like Hepatitis B, and C and things like mononucleosis, and herpes complex.

When your children get in your front door from school, have them wash their hands immediately, and this way you will escape some germs they have brought home with them. Mine know to do this each time, and now, I do not have to remind them much. Also make them take their shoes off at the front door, this way nothing comes from the bottom of their shoes, inside your house.

One thing I do do from time to time, is to Lysol their school bags, and shoes, and personal or plastic things they use at school. This is just one precaution I have done for my family. Yea, it is a little excessive it would seem, but I have been blessed by doing it. Escaped a lot of colds, I believe.

All of us with school age children have heard of lice. Lice can be a scary thing to think about, I for one dread the day it happens to me, and I hope it does not. You can start on the first day taking small measures to ensure that no lice problem comes your way. I use Tea Tree Oil and mix it with a household fresheners. I will spray carpets and linen with this mixture, weekly, this is guaranteed to keep fleas, and lice at bay. So far we have not seen any lice, but yet my children have had friends from school that have had them.

These are just some reminders for you as a parent, a few tips also. Hopefully you and your children will stay healthy and happy over this new school year.
