Help Pets in Need - Fort Worth, TX

Terri Rimmer
A couple of months ago my neighbor across the street moved out and threw out a huge brand new bag of dog food that had never been opened.

I couldn't believe they got rid of new dog food just by putting it on the curb so I donated it to the Humane Society near me.

During thes difficult economic times, pet food is needed more than ever by shelters and food banks.

Right now when you bring in a pet food donation to any EECU Credit Union branch location, you will be entered into a drawing to win a $250 Petsmart® gift card.

Winner need not be present to win and will be contacted by phone after March 31.

In unrelated pet news, the West Side Animal League will hold adoptions at 7th Haven, 2700 W. 7th Street in Fort Worth, TX March 28 at 1 p.m.

For more information, call 817-744-8550.

In other animal news, Operation Kindness (OK), Carrollton's no-kill shelter at 3201 Earhart Drive offers Pet Care badges for Junior Girl Scout troops to earn and have been doing so for four years.

For more information, access operationkindness.org or call 972-417-PAWS.

If you have a youth group who would like to help the homeless animals, contact Tomi Tucker at ttucker@operationkindness.org.

The shelter is also having their annual garage sale May 15, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot. They are currently accepting like books, decorative items, small appliances, baby supplies, pet items, housewares, jewelry, shoes, and purses. You can drop off items March 20, April 17, and May 8 from 10-4 or email events@operationkindness.org to set up an appointment.

OK is also in need of paper towels now because the puppies there go through a lot of them. With over 200 animals in the shelter at a time paper towels are used often and in mass quantities.

Feral Friends Community Cat Alliance in Dallas needs a volunteer coordinator. Duties include posting volunteer opportunities on various websites to advertise agency needs, following up on volunteer applications that come in and making contact with potential volunteers, and scheduling volunteers for special events.

Most of these duties can be done by computer or phone but the coordinator may be needed in person for some of these events. The agency is located at 14902 Preston Road #404-930.

For information, email krichert@verizon.net or call Kelly Richert at 972-671-0429.
