Help Reduce or Eliminate Wrinkles by Using Natural Cosmetics

Agnes Farside
In my late 40s, I started seeing fine lines appear around my eyes and mouth. Wanting to prevent further skin damage, I started researching how synthetic cosmetics can cause damage while natural cosmetics can help reduce or eliminate wrinkles. Natural cosmetics are cosmetics, such as makeup, lotions, and shampoos, produced from things, such as herbs and minerals, obtained from nature. Natural cosmetic products may be made from the whole ingredient such as a whole herb or a derivative, such as only the oil. I use herbs or plants as examples, because they are the most widely used. Natural cosmetics are sometimes referred to as herbal cosmetics. Besides being an alternative for synthetic cosmetics that may cause allergic reactions, natural cosmetics also provide many health benefits that can help reduce wrinkles and rejuvenate the skin.

Natural cosmetics are not new, having been used for thousands of years; however, they have grown in popularity in the last 10 to 15 years. Unlike synthetic products, herbs have time-tested ingredients such as nutritional and healing properties that can help cleanse, restore, and rejuvenate skin, hair, lips, and nails. India's Ayurvedic lotion recipes and face cream formulas from China are worldly acclaimed for their wrinkle prevention and for the reversal of damaged skin. France promotes mud and clays for tightening the skin and helping to reduce unsightly cellulite.

There are many old and new companies selling natural cosmetics, and having bought from quite a few of them I can say that the good ones are those that continue to experiment, test, and revise their products. They will also list all the ingredients on their packages and state if there are any animal products included or if any animal testing has been performed, of which I am opposed.

One does not need to purchase natural cosmetics to benefit from their anti-aging properties as many household items can be used to obtain the same results. Milk and lemon are natural cleansers and work wonderfully for cleansing the face. Uncooked oatmeal mixed with an egg white makes an excellent facial mask to help tighten sagging skin. Sugar combined with olive oil and a few drops of an essential oil such as lavender makes a great facial or body scrub. Cucumber slices placed over eyes have been known to reduce puffiness. Oil extracts of almond or coconut massaged into the skin can help control wrinkles, dry skin, and creases giving the skin a healthy glow, making it look younger.

If you are uncertain how to make your own natural cosmetics, look for herbal books with cosmetic recipes that you can make yourself so that you can utilize the anti-aging properties of natural cosmetics.
