Help Soothe Your Pet's Upset Stomach

Dogs are known to eat just about anything and cats eat mice that carry diseases. Often pets eat way too much food and garbage, which leads to an upset stomach and vomiting. Dogs, and some cats, vomit at the drop of a hat. And since dogs eat most anything they also eat their own upchuck. Gross! But true. Don't try to stop them it's natural to do this. There are a few things you can do to help soothe your pet's upset stomach. If your pet is vomiting then they need a break from the food intake. Ease up on the amount of food or try putting them on a 24-hour fast to help clear up their upset stomach. However, if your pet is still vomiting after one day or is lethargic and disoriented take them to the vet right away. They may have eaten something they shouldn't have like a poisonous substance or plant or it could be a sign of serious problems.

Another way to help soothe your pet's upset stomach is to make sure they drink plenty of water after they finish vomiting. Vomiting causes dehydration, so fill up their water bowl and make sure they drink it. If drinking water adds to their upset stomach or they don't want to drink the water, try giving them some ice cubes. Your pet will lick the ice cubes, which will provide the water to go down easier. Plus, it provides a source of entertainment to your pet. Prevent your pet from drinking from the toilet. Pets love to do this but they could get a taste of some bad bacteria, which contributes to or causes an upset stomach.

To help soothe your pet's upset stomach make sure you don't feed them any spicy, hot, or seasoned food, and don't give them any human food for a while. Feed your pet regular dry dog food every few hours to see if they can keep the food down. Then slowly bring back their favorite food but don't overdue it. You can also help to soothe your pet's upset stomach with some products humans take to soothe their upset stomach. You can give them Kaopectate and for dogs only, Pepto Bismol, don't give cats this it can make their stomach even more upset. Just a reminder that your pets, especially dogs, will not care too much for the taste of either medicine, so it may be pretty difficult to administer this type of treatment but you can try. Make sure you consult with your vet on how much to give your pet. For Kaopectate, it's usually one teaspoon for every ten pounds and for Pepto Bismol, it's one teaspoon for every 20 pounds.
