Help Your Spouse Overcome Their Addiction to Porn

Kristi Patrice Carter
Millions of Americans are addicted to pornography. Porn is extremely accessible these days which can exacerbate the problem. Porn such as magazines, DVDs, websites, blogs, chat rooms and more all exist online. Like any addiction, being addicted to porn is a sickness and addicted individuals will need treatment to overcome it. If you suspect that your spouse is addicted to pornography, there are steps you can take to help them overcome it.

Step #1 - Show your Support

This is probably the hardest step emotionally for you, but you will need to show your spouse that you support them in overcoming their addiction to porn. Being addicted to porn can be embarrassing and difficult to talk about. Talking to a spouse about it is even harder. You will need to work through you own feelings of betrayal and hurt to help support your spouse in overcoming their addiction. Try to be understanding and strong shoulder for your spouse to lean on.

Step #2 - Take Electronic Action

You should immediately install a software program or filter to block your computer from accessing porn sites online. This will help your spouse stop feeing their addiction. Temptation is very hard for an addict to resist, and you will be removing the temptation. Always install it using a password that is only known to you, so your spouse cannot tamper with the software.

Step #3 - Rekindle The Spark

Now is the time to rekindle the spark in your relationship with your spouse. Show your spouse how attracted you are to them and make them feel erotic and wanted. If your spouse gets sexual satisfaction from you, they will be less temped to look at porn online.

Step #4 - Lose the Guilt

Be careful not to make your partner feel guilty. Chances are that they already do and having you pile on the guilt won't help matters. If you are laying on the guilt trips, you may actually cause their addiction to porn to worsen. Avoid using their porn addiction as an excuse or reason in other arguments. Everything does not revolve around their online porn addiction.

Overcoming an online porn addiction, like any other obstacle, can make your marriage stronger in the end. Support your spouse in their efforts to overcome it, and don't hesitate to take steps of your own.
