You can protect your skin by using sunscreen and sunblock products, wearing a brimmed hat and sun-protective clothing, and using lip balm containing sunscreen. There are many products available that will give you the extra protection that you need. Everyone should protect their skin. Even if you have a darker complexion, it is still necessary to protect your skin from harmful sun rays.
There is a difference between sunscreen and sunblock products. Both products protect the skin from sunrays. However, a sunscreen absorbs the ultraviolet light from the sun and a sunblock actually blocks the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Both products will assist you in preventing sunburn and from creating other damage to the skin, such as skin cancer.
Sunscreen can also prevent wrinkles from occurring in your skin as you get older. This product may come in the form of a lotion, cream, spray or gel. Sunscreen will provide an adequate amount of protection from the sun. However, sometimes sunscreens irritate your skin and will cause a rash.
When choosing a sunscreen, you should pay very close attention to the product's SPF (sun protection factor). This number will basically tell you how long you can stay in the sun before your skin will begin to burn. The SPF measures the strength of a cream's sun filter against the sun. Sunscreens with a higher SPF factor will allow you to stay in the sun longer. However, you will be exposed to more ultraviolet rays. The SPF should be at least a fifteen. A person may need a sunscreen with a stronger SPF, if they have a certain skin disorder such as eczema.
A sunblock can come in the form of a lotion, cream or ointment as well. Although sunblocks are very effective, some people do not like them because they are often thick, greasy and they can clog your pores. Nevertheless, many people still use sunblock products, despite the disadvantages.
Helpful Tips
1. Be sure to read all directions before applying sunblock or sunscreen to your skin.
2. Before applying any product to your skin, it is best to test a tiny amount on a small area of your body.
3. Try to avoid going out in the sun during the middle of the day (10 am-2 pm).
4. You might need to re-apply the sunscreen/sunblock if you remain in the sun for an extended amount of time.
5. You might also have to re-apply the sunscreen/sunblock after swimming or after excessive sweating.
6. As a reminder, please remember to take good care of your skin and always use products that will protect your skin from the sun.
