Using Essential Oils to Beautify and Rejuvenate Your Hair

Joanna Ammons
With so many choices in hair products, picking the right ones can be a tough task. No matter what hair products you choose, I give advice to implement natural products to enhance the products that you are currently using. In addition, I have researched the advice that should be implemented into your hair care regimen.

Thinning/ Fine Hair:
A well known aroma therapist's secret is using Tea Tree oil directly in your scalp at bedtime. Massaging Tea Tree Oil into your scalp is known to aid in promoting healthy hair growth. Tea Tree Oil helps reach the deep layers of the scalp and hair roots and exfoliates the excess build-up in the hair follicle. It removes dandruff, flaking, and buffers sensitive scalp areas. Part your hair into four sections and massage 1-2 drops of oil in each section. In the morning when applying on your shampoo, place 3-6 drops of Tea Tree Oil in your shampoo. Let shampoo stand on your hair 2-3 minutes before rinsing. Also place 3-6 drops of Tea Tree Oil in your conditioner. Let stand on hair 2-5 minutes before rinsing. Tea Tree Oil is very invigorating for the scalp. Frequent use promotes a healthy scalp.

All Hair Types:
7 drops of Peppermint Oil mixed with one ounce of Almond Oil makes for a good hair conditioning base for practically all hair types. Mint gently cleanses the scalp and leaves a refreshing invigorating tingle. Almond Oil provides a good all round conditioning base to enhance any shampoo or conditioner. Use separately as a conditioner on its own or add a quarter sized portion to your shampoo and conditioner in the palm of your hand.

Wavy/ Coarse/ Curly/ Ethnic Hair:
Most of the products for this hair type contain petroleum or mineral oil. These are the worse ingredients you can use because it weighs down hair.

Oil of Fig is an ideal oil for wavy, coarse, curly or ethnic hair. Oil of Fig stimulates healthy scalp for this hair type. In addition it adds the proper amount of moisture and sheen. One of the main goals is manageability. Oil of Fig helps hair to become hair lustrous and shiny and aids hair in being manageable.
A great treatment for wavy, coarse, or curly ethnic hair is making a hair mask to re-hydrate your hair to jump start an intensive conditioning process. You can use any store bought hair mask or create your own with your favorite conditioner at home. Also surprisingly, natural mayonnaise also makes an excellent hair mask conditioner. Add 10 drops of Oil of Fig to your store bought hair mask, hair conditioner or Mayonnaise. Leave on your hair for one hour.

Thoroughly wash hair with your favorite shampoo. Place 10 drops of Oil of Fig in your favorite conditioner. Leave on for 5-7 minutes. Upon rinsing out completely, remove excess water from hair take 5 drops of oil of Fig and distribute through your hair as a leave in conditioner. This leaves a natural finish and helps in avoiding frizzing.

Essential Tips For All Hair Types:
Always rinse your hair with cool water, this can help keep your hair cuticles closed. This in addition can preserve the length of time your hair color remains to prevent it from getting dull and faded. Let it be comfortably cool, not icy cold.

Never brush hair when wet. This causes breakage. A wide tooth comb is much more gentler and safer for hair.

Do not use metallic or Aluminum brushes. Wood based brushes with boar bristle work better for not damaging your hair.

If you use a blow dryer, get a protective nozzle.Nozzle attachments help make hair shinier and smoother. It protects the hair from getting burned by the hair dryer.
