Helpful Tips for Visiting Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is a theme park located in Vallejo, California. There are several general tips that can make a trip to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom more enjoyable. If you're looking for general tips to utilize during your visit to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, consider the following.

Read the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom website - Although the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom website does fail to include certain bits of information useful to potential visitors, there is still some helpful information to be found there. Thoroughly read the website to find dates and hours of operation, a somewhat vague introduction to the rides and attractions available within the park, as well as a listing of many of the animals guests can see while visiting.

Search for Six Flags Discovery Kingdom reviews online - There are quite a few customer reviews of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom located on the Internet. It makes sense to read reviews because you may find a repeating theme among many of them which causes you to either go ahead and visit Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, or possibly change your mind and choose a different destination.

Save money where you can - Check around online for discounts on Six Flags Discovery Kingdom tickets. It seems the most accessible discount is obtained by purchasing tickets online at the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom website. Currently, there is a promo allowing everyone to get in for the kid's price. Another way to save money on admission is to consider a Season Pass. If you will be visiting the park more than once in any one calendar year, the Season Pass will save you money in the long run. Ticket savings appear to be the only way to save money on a visit to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, as it seems impossible to obtain any real discounts on parking ($15), or on food within the park.

To avoid lines, arrive early -It has been said that the parking lot at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom opens a full hour before the park opens. I received that tip from a fellow "friend" on SFDK's Facebook page. We did not arrive that early however, so I cannot confirm the information. We did arrive at exactly the same time the park was scheduled to open, and the rides and tram were already running. Additionally, the parking lot was filled enough to assume that it had been open for at least half an hour before opening. We made it into the park about 15 minutes after opening, and had 5 minute waits for all the large coasters like Kong and Medusa. These lines appeared to remain this short for several hours.

To save time, purchase your tickets online before your trip - Since you want to get into the park as soon as possible upon arrival in order to avoid long lines, it makes the most sense to purchase and print your admission tickets before arrival. Depending on crowd levels when you arrive, standing in line to purchase a ticket at the gate could hold you up for anywhere from five minutes, to half an hour. Arriving with your pre-printed ticket in hand will allow you to simply walk right in to the park.

Be aware that food in the park is extremely expensive, and not of great quality - A common complaint in many customer reviews of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is that the food inside the park is outrageously priced. We found this to be very true. One advertised "special" noted $44 for 4 hot dogs and 4 sodas! So, I would have to agree that the prices were completely unreasonable. A plate that would cost you about $6 at any other Panda Express in the state of California, will cost you $11 at the Panda Express located inside Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Another food offer we noticed was $44 for a pizza and 4 sodas.

As a result, many people opt to bring a packed meal, such as cold sandwiches and drinks. This is a viable option, however be aware that you will not be allowed to bring any food into the park. I have read reviews that suggested guests were able to sneak sandwiches wrapped in Ziploc baggies into the park by concealing them in a jacket or large pocket. We opted to leave our picnic lunch out in the car. You can however, rent a locker at the entrance gate for $9 if you want to store you homemade lunch closer. The parking lot is about a 10 minute walk, or a 5 minute tram ride away, so renting a locker might be more convenient.

Hopefully, these tips will help you enjoy your day at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.
