Dealing with chronic pain can be an uphill battle. However, finding effective ways to treat and prevent chronic recurring pain at home is possible. Knowing the most effective ways to achieve pain relief at home can make all the difference in dealing with a chronic pain condition.

Arthritis pain relief is an important issue for many arthritis sufferers. The most effective and immediate way to achieve arthritis pain relief is accomplished by using anti-inflammatory drugs like NSAIDs. Low impact exercise is better for joints, so stay away from high impact sports and activities. Doing daily stretching exercise will help to keep the joints fluid and flexible. Additionally, lifting weights and building up muscle mass will help to provide a better support system for your joints. Losing weight is another essential element to the long term relief of joint pain. Excess weight causes unnecessary stress and excessive impact on joints. Certain medications both prescription and over the counter may be helpful in providing joint pain relief. Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate supplements be helpful in providing some relief along with standard pain relievers.

Generally, neck pain responds well to most home pain relief treatments. Neck pain relief typically starts with an over the counter pain reliever such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, or Acetaminophen. Additionally, pain relief creams containing menthol or camphor may be useful. Alternating hot and cold compresses may help to reduce the inflammation that causes some neck pain. Stretching and performing simple movements of the neck may help combat chronic neck pain. Moving your neck slowly from side to side may reduce the frequency of neck pain and increase mobility. Using a supportive pillow and having proper alignment while sleeping may also help to relieve chronic neck pain. Neck pain relief is typically achieved using a combination of treatments.

Many pain relief medications are used to combat the pain associated with arthritis, back, joint and neck pain. Anti-Inflammatory drugs like NSAIDs and Ibuprofen are most commonly used. They are sold over the counter under the brand names Aleve, Advil, Motrin and Nuprin. Acetaminophen or Tylenol may also be helpful, but it is not an anti-inflamatory drug. Doctors may also prescribe a prescription strength version of many of these pain relief medications, along with other related medications.
