Helping the People of Haiti in the Wake of This Disaster

What Are the Best Ways to Help in This Humanitarian Crisis?

This article is partially about the problems of Haiti and also an observation of failure of self governance. As you probably know Haiti was ravaged by a powerful earthquake on January 12, 2010. There have been various accounts, but it hit in the capital of Port-au-prince. This compounded the problem because what little infrastructure they county had was right were the earthquake hit. This included many hospitals and disaster relief workers. In addition to the large amount of homes and buildings being leveled there is a shortage of food and water and it's hard to get it to the people for logistical reasons and fear of rioting when food is done.

There are wide accounts of the dead that started at around 50,000 and possibly going up to several hundred thousand including several public officials that died in the quake. They have been trying to dig people still buried alive out, but hope is very dim for finding anyone else alive. The relief workers have stated that they have "ran out of body bags" and they have to bury who they can in mass grave or have cremations. This is because to sanitary reasons for the body being out in the elements possible damaging what water supplies they have and the threat of disease. I am sure it really stinks there now and the smell is probably unbearable.

Aid is pouring in from various places in the world. Traditions do hold true though that the United States is fronting most of it. We are in a horrible recession and our fearless leader, Barack Hussein Obama, has pledged millions of dollars. I do think aid is important, but I also think with all the problems this country has we can't throw money around like it is Obama Bux. People interested can make private donations through various groups like the Red Cross, Catholic Charities and other groups. My church took up a collection during a service and I happily donated to help my fellow man. I do think there are plenty of people in this country that are starving, homeless and live in poverty of all races and that something should be done to help them before we send my tax dollars and any other Americans to total strangers. Barack Obama and the liberals are on a spending spree as it is and it's not over yet with healthcare breathing down our necks. Americans don't want the bill but they will probably get it and as such lead to further problems in this country.

It is only natural to want to help but we have problems in this country and other countries should be doing more to help not just the United States. Even by giving aid it can be hard to make sure it gets there. I don't think it is a very safe place for most Americans if riots or looting breaks out. I gave money through my church and encourage everyone who can to do that as the father in scripture tells us to. I would much rather help my own countryman though than a stranger. As if we don't have enough problems that moron Obama is halting deportation of illegal Haitians, which is a slap in the face to law abiding Americans. I can see not sending them to Haiti, but there is a nation in West Africa (I forgot the name) that has offered free land to people, but they may find the hand outs are not as easy there. He also wants various visas for humanitarian refugees. When was the last time we helped a civilized European nation with its problems? We have not because they have been able to self-govern themselves.
