Helping Your Wife Through the Labor Process

How to Help Your Wife Through Labor

Most men think that there is very little that they can do for their wife when they are going through labor. In fact there are tons of things that a man can do to help his wife during the labor process, both emotionally and physically. The first thing that you can do is go online or head over to the library and do some research on acupressure points to help your wife relieve pain during the labor process. It is best to practice these techniques with your wife before the birth so when she is in labor you both are prepared. Another great idea is bring things to do the delivery room to distract her while she is in labor. Bring things such as music, pictures of your other children or ice chips.

You also need to help your wife breath and push like instructed in your childbirth classes. Another thing you should do to help your wife during the labor process is offer them water, this helps sooth her. Offer her water often as possible. If she is being a bit testy don't get upset with her or leave, you need to stick with her now more than ever before. You need to be her friend through this process by offering a lot of emotional support, you need to be her number on advocate during this whole thing. If an emergency comes up during your wife's labor process don't leave no matter what, you need to stay with her the entire time because she will need to tell you what is going on and she will want your support.

Another thing to do during the labor process is bring only the people that she says that she wants there, don't bring your friends or anybody else to assist you during the process unless she says so. She may become upset if she notices people she does not want there, this is not good for her, this process needs to be least stressful as possible. The last and most important thing is make sure that you do not get in the way of the doctor or the other personnel, this is something that many men often overlook but is very important that you stay out of the doctor's way and let them do their job to make the process move along quickly and painlessly as possible. Having a baby is a big deal for both your wife and yourself and it is your responsibility as her partner to help her through this whole process.
