Hendrick Motorsports Dominate the Racing Season

The Chase for the Nextel Cup is on, for the next 10 races the top 12 teams are racing for a chance to win the Nextel Cup. Hendrick Motorsports is at the top of their game. Out of their four Nextel Cup teams, three of them are locked into The Chase and the fourth will finish not too far behind. Hendrick Motorsports has dominated the field for the 2007 NASCAR schedule. With a total of 12 wins and 11 poles between the teams, Hendrick Motorsports is the team to beat this year. After just five races, Jeff Gordon has taken over the points lead and has never left.

The 24 DuPont Chevrolet, driven by Jeff Gordon, sits as the point's leader after 26 races to date. The 24 car has sat on the pole a total of 9 times, with 3 of them due to his points lead when qualifying was cancelled due to rain. He has a total of 4 wins and 15 top-five finishes. The 48 car, driven by Jimmie Johnson and sponsored by Lowes, has just one pole this year but has won 6 races and 14 top-five finishes. The Kellogg's 5 car driven by Kyle Busch has added a win to Hendricks rooster as well as one by Casey Mears, who drives the 25 National Guard/ GMAC car.

Sweeping the season at Richmond International Raceway, Jimmie Johnson in the 48 Lowes Chevrolet started in first place and finished in first place for the last race before The Chase to the Nextel Cup. Hendrick Motorsports dominated the track with Jeff Gordon and the 24 DuPont Chevrolet leading the most laps with 190. Race winner Jimmie Johnson lead 104 and teammate Casey Mears lead six laps.

Another championship for Hendrick Motorsports is looming on the horizon for this organization that has been making waves through out the season. Even after the crew chiefs for both the 24 team and 48 team were suspended for six races after infractions at Sonoma, these Hendrick teams persevered to continue lead the Nextel Cup 2007 season. Now the only question is, can they hold off the late starters of the season from Joe Gibbs Racing? Both Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin did not win a race until almost half way thru the season. Denny Hamlin started the Joe Gibbs Racing wins off on July 1st winning the Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway.

Yeah they are dominant, good thing Busch is going over to Gibbs next year to even it out. Yeley didn't to do bad this year he is around 20th in the standings, near Bobby Labonte and other good drivers and he finished 10th at Richmond, so you know the #18 is a good car.

I like Stewart and Gibbs and next year hopefully Toyota progresses faster, but I am worried it may hurt them for awhile.

Not enough NASCAR articles, NASCAR addicts represent.
