The type of henna that you want to use for this conditioning treatment is colorless or neutral. Although it is sold as henna, it actually comes from the Cassia Obovata plant. When purchasing colorless henna, you want to make sure to check for freshness. It normally keeps for up to three months, unless stored in a cold environment, like a refrigerator. If refrigerated, it can last up to a year.
Colorless henna contains anthraquinones which is an antifungal and antibacterial element that gives the added benefit of aiding in the relief of dandruff, ringworm and lice. It is also a natural conditioner which coats the hair shaft and binds with your hairs' own keratin, resulting in thicker, glossier and softer hair without changing its color.
The type of yogurt that you want to use for your conditioner is whole fat, plain yogurt. Make sure that it contains live active cultures as well. Yogurt will hydrate the scalp without adding any weight or oiliness and also has anti-dandruff properties. This henna and yogurt hair treatment is a super feast for your scalp and hair that will work against any damage that your hair has already suffered, as well as make your scalp healthy and refreshed.
1. To make your henna and yogurt hair conditioning treatment simply add 1/4 cup of colorless or neutral henna powder to 1/2 a cup of plain yogurt. Mix the henna powder and yogurt into a smooth paste in a small or medium sized bowl.
2. Shampoo hair as usual, rinse and towel dry leaving it damp.
3. Apply the henna and yogurt conditioning treatment from root to tips, and massage into scalp.
4. Cover your hair with a shower cap or plastic wrap and leave on for 20 minutes, longer if your hair is severely dry or damaged.
5. Rinse thoroughly and style as usual.
With these five simple steps, your dry and damaged hair will instantly hydrate, thicken and seem more supple. If you do not already have dry or damaged hair, the henna and yogurt treatment will reduce the risk of future damage and provide your hair with overall shine. Be warned, that henna is not recommended for people who have color treated hair. It is best used if your hair is not colored or dyed with anything other than another color based henna product.
Henna and yogurt are wonderful for any hair type and when combined to make a hair treatment, leaves your tresses happy, healthy and better able to ward off the damages of sun, wind, winter dry-out, and heated styling tools. The benefits are beautiful and there are no chemical smells or side effects. Henna and yogurt are the perfect combination for perfect hair!
