Henrik Sedin, MVP

The National Hockey League announced forward Henrik Sedin as the 2010 Hart Trophy winner at its annual award show held in Las Vegas. For the first time in franchise history, a Vancouver Canuck was deemed "the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team."

When finalists for the Hart Trophy were announced as Washington Capitals' Alexander Ovechkin, Pittsburgh Penguins' Sidney Crosby, and Vancouver Canucks' Henrik Sedin, many hockey fans automatically minimized the expected outcome to merely another competition between Ovi and Sid. While Sedin did finish up the season as the front runner in league points, he was definitely the underdog in this situation. After all, Ovechkin and Crosby have won the Hart for the last three years.

The Sweden native maintained his status as an exceptional team player and led the League with 83 assists. However, in racking up a solid plus/minus rating of 35, Sedin proved to be a thriving individual player as well. He set a number of career highs in offensive categories with 29 goals and 112 points. Such success ultimately won him the Art Ross Trophy, which came as a first for both Sedin and the Vancouver franchise. To put another check in the Sedin column, he managed to accomplish such feats in the Western Conference, which is always more competitive.
