Her Beauty Keeps Ascending

T. H. Pankey
How is it she's more beautiful?
No! My eyes weren't covered with wool.
Before she was very pretty.
I thought, "beautiful as can be."
But this is beauty to the full!

Another day, again I mull.
Now yesterday, too, seems so dull.
Today she's even more lovely.
How is it?

It's hard to think you were once null.
Now you're wide and high like a gull.
Your beauty is broad and so free.
Moving over land, over sea,
Yet so still, perfect, like a lull.
How is it?

Beauty is only "skin deep" they say - but in your heart you know the way - that in this child you know best - that the future will show the rest.
