Her Tender Eyes

Her eyes don't

Smile no more

They don't gleam

Or glow, or twinkle

Nor sparkle

Shine or dance

They only lie like

Dead black spots within

Milky pools of white

Contained behind thick

Glassy walls of saltwater

Her tender eyes

Don't smile no more

They often grow wet

Grow round with bright tears

Then leak a

Slow easy trail

And sometimes they

Swell rather swiftly

Then empty themselves

Sans restraint

But it feels

Like forever since

Last I saw them smile
