The first time I tried out Herbal Essence's Tousle Me Softly mousse was for a wedding. It was an afternoon summer wedding so I wanted nice, easy going hair instead of the usual overly done look. I followed the instructions on the mousse bottle to the letter and even used hair spray for good measure. The result? Blah. It wasn't horrible but it was no where near what I wanted and nothing like the woman in the commercial. I was very disappointed but at least it didn't turn out to be a complete mess. It was just blah. The only good thing about it was that my hair wasn't stiff or oily, and pretty much stayed in place for the entire wedding. The only other positive things I can think of was that the mousse did smell nice and it didn't cost me very much, just roughly $4 at Wal-Mart.
I tried the Tousle Me Softly Mousse a few more times to see if maybe the first time was just one of those first time error things. The results were the same, not so much as a wave in my hair. My hair looked a little like it does when I first wake up in the morning, not perfectly straight but nothing that could pass for being "tousled" either. It was more of a wind blown look, and not in an attractive way.
After my failed attempts I went onto Youtube to see how others used their Tousled Me Softly products, surely I wasn't the only person with super straight hair to have tried these products. I came across a handful that got the "tousled" look I've been trying to achieve with Herbal Essence mousse but they used more than the Tousled Me Softly products. Many people were curling their hair after the mousse step and then hair sprayed it and did a few other stuff to get the look. If that's what I had to do to get the look that the woman in the commercial had, then the commercial and the product instructions were very misleading.
To sum it up, it's possible to achieve the tousled look with this mousse but it requires additional steps. Frankly, I'm sure the look can be achieved with any mousse, not just this one. I would only recommend it if it's the most affordable mousse you can find, otherwise don't waste your money.
