Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Shampoo Review

Angelie MacKenzie
After coloring my hair, I searched for a cheap alternative to the expensive hair products sold in salons. I don't like to color my hair often, so I needed a good shampoo for color treated hair so the color would last. When looking for shampoo sold outside of a salon, I always think of Herbal Essences.

A year ago, I tried the Herbal Essences Degunkify shampoo and it was a complete let down. Having liked Herbal Essences many years ago, though, I returned to the familiar product. After all, they deserved one more chance.

In looking at their products, it was a bit frustrating that there was only one shampoo for color-treated hair called, Color Me Happy. As if that wasn't bad enough, it only comes in the one scent - acai berries & satin. It really did not smell all that good. Personally, I need more of a selection than that.

Using this shampoo, my color did not last at all. This was surprising since I had colored it before and not used salon products. After doing some research, I discovered that products used on color-treated hair should be sulfate free. Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Shampoo, however, is not sulfate free. I can't imagine why they do this. Maybe having that in it helps to keep the price down?

Not wanting to continue to use the Color Me Happy shampoo, I gave it to my mom. She said that it made her hair dry. But more than that, she said that it did not help to protect her colored hair either.

I have to give props to Herbal Essences for redoing their entire product line a couple years ago. The redesigned Herbal Essences line would draw most anyone in with their unusually shaped bottles and bright colors. Their marketing team really hit a home run on the redesign.

However, Herbal Essences needs to take a look at their new formulas. I have yet to discuss Herbal Essences with anyone who says they prefer the new line to the old one. Herbal Essences needs to return to the original formulas that they were using a few years back and package them in the new bottles. Now that would be an excellent product.

To improve their current line of products, Herbal Essences needs to remove the sulfate in the products for color treated hair. They also need to offer more variety in their specific hair care lines, such as more than one scent for each type.

I love the Shielo Color Protect - both shampoo and conditioner - but it's usually way too expensive in the salon. Love that I can get a great price on it AND have free shipping ordering at their website online. Best shampoo I have used to preserve my color job.

I highly recommend it if you spent alot of money coloring your hair, and now want to keep that color as long as possible!
