Herbal Essences Pin Straight is Satisfying for Long Hair

Ashley Mott
Over the years I have tried many different shampoo and conditioner sets offered by Clairol Herbal Essences and other brands alike. I began my journey into the world of shampoo with Herbal Essences in the mid-1990s as a preteen. Back then Herbal Essences did not offer a variety of specific specialty hair care products as they do now. Dangerously Straight Pin Straight Shampoo with an improved formula for keeping hair straight and shiny is the latest addition! I recently had the opportunity to sample this formula before it appears on the market.

At first I was skeptical about the Pin Straight shampoo and conditioner set. I knew that Herbal Essences had an existing smoothing shampoo to help aid in the creation and maintenance of straight hairstyles, and I wasn't sure that another product could be added to the existing line that was different enough to merit its own branding and distribution as Pin Straight.

I stand corrected. In my opinion, Pin Straight is a marked improvement over other straightening and smoothing formulas I have used in the past.

My hair is naturally wavy with several larger waves in the length of it versus the numerous smaller waves it has at a shorter length. Because of this, I do not need a hair care formula that accomplishes a smoothing effect with the addition of weighty moisturizers. The Pin Straight shampoo and conditioner products work together to thoroughly cleanse and moisturize without the benefits creating new problem areas in hair care.

I am typically an "every other day" shampooer and conditioner. I find more frequent washings make the ends of my hair feel less healthy, so I prefer the extra wait time. When I use Pin Straight from Herbal Essences, my hair maintains a higher level of luster and looks freshly washed for longer. I did not have to touch up my roots with dry shampoo on the morning of the second day after shampooing which helped reduce my prep time.

My hair was straighter in appearance, minus my hot-iron out only waves, even without the use of a hair dryer though the product did help increase the degree of straightness I achieve with light heat styling. Because of the lack of weighty moisturizing, my hair was smooth and sleek while maintaining a high level of volume. This is especially important to me as my roots lose a bit of volume due to the weight of my long hair. Any further flattening leads to a matted, unclean look.

The particular moisturizing formula in the shampoo and conditioner has also helped me combat winter static on the first day of cleaning. On the second day, I do have to use a protein mist to calm static on particularly dry days.

The only additional thing I could ask for is that Herbal Essences went one further step down the revolutionary trail and marketed their shampoos and conditioner more widely in a variety of sizes. If I could go to any superstore or drugstore and pick up every shampoo type in multiple sizes, I would buy a smaller bottle of shampoo and a larger bottle of conditioner of "Pin Straight" as I have went through almost an entire conditioner bottle while only using half a bottle of shampoo.
