Herbal home remedies have been used for years to treat common ailments such as toothaches. The items used in such remedies can range from the most common things such as crushed garlic and pieces of citrus fruit or items much more specialized such as Echinacea and asafetida.

Toothaches, no matter the age of the person, can be a common occurrence. Even though toothaches happen often, it is not always easy to see a dentist in a timely manner. Until then, finding a solution to the pain might seem like a good idea. Using herbal remedies that are all natural may be even a better idea.

A toothache, or odontalgia, is defined as being severe pain in or the surrounding area of a tooth. Many things can cause a toothache. These things include a cavity, a fissure in the enamel, gum disease, a problem within the jaw, or the onset of a wisdom tooth or two. Preventive dentistry and regular dental hygiene that includes the use of fluoride, toothaches are far less common than they use to be, but are still not considered an abnormal occurrence. Tips on using home herbal remedies are listed below.

If you have clove oil or ground cloves, you can apply these things directly onto the affected tooth and area. This herbal remedy for tooth pain has is one of the most well known and commonly used.

If you have access to Echinacea, this is another good remedy to try out. It has even been called the "toothache plant" at some points in time. This herb has been used for many common ailments. For toothaches, make an Echinacea tincture to apply to the affected tooth.

Another herb that is believed to relieve tooth pain is the resin asafetida. To use this as a toothache remedy, mix equal parts of asafetida and lime juice. Use this paste by applying it to tooth that is causing the pain as needed.

An herb that is not well known to help relieve toothache pain effectively is the herb garlic. Take a clove of garlic, crush it, and apply it to the affected tooth and you should notice a significant difference in the pain that you were feeling.

Using slices of lime to help reduce the pain of a toothache is also another way to get temporary relief. Lime even has several benefits regarding dental care.

Even though toothaches are something many people deal with, it's not something that we want to continuously go through. Taking preventive measures against such things is the best way to avoid several dental visits a year. Using herbal home remedies just might be the perfect way to deal with tooth pain, until you are able to see your dentist.
