Herbal Remedies for Cysts

Many people suffer from cysts. Ovarian cysts are especially common in women. There are herbal remedies for cysts that can be used to alleviate the symptoms associated with cysts, although they may not eliminate the condition.

Hormones in birth control pills are typically used to treat the pain and discomfort associated with ovarian cysts. Surgery is used to remove ovarian cysts if they are large enough or painful enough to be problematic. However, they are likely to return after surgery unless the underlying cause is discovered. Cysts may be asymptomatic or cause severe pain. The pain of ovarian cysts can take on a monthly cycle caused by hormone fluctuations. Choosing herbal remedies for cysts is less invasive option that does not alter the body's chemistry by using synthetic hormones.

There are several different herbal remedies for cysts, and there is a great deal of anecdotal evidence that they are effective. Herbs that are known to help regulate hormones and promote balance may calm the affects of cysts. These herbs include Yam, Red Clover-Like Chasteberry and regular Chasteberry. Black Cohosh is an herb used for its ability to bring the menstrual cycle under control due to the natural female hormones it contains. Preventing severe hormone changes using herbs can prevent the monthly cycle of pain caused by cysts.

Cysts are caused by built up toxins that should be removed by the liver. Herbal remedies that detoxify the body should help eliminate on of the causes of cysts. Dandelion and Milk Thistle are both herbs used to remove toxins from the body.

Herbs alone are not enough; adopting a healthy diet and lifestyle is essential to treating cysts. Diet and exercise each play an important role in hormone production and regulation. If you suffer from ovarian cysts, consult your doctor about an exercise regime and diet. This will require willpower, but the results are worth the effort.

As when taking any other herbal remedy, consult a medical professional before taking herbal remedies for cyst. This is particularly important for anyone already on medication because the herbs can react with different prescription drugs.
