Herbal Remedies for Sinus Issues and Allergies

If you suffer from sinusitis, seasonal allergies or hay fever this article will benefit you. There are herbs out there that can ease these symptoms. In a previous article about herbs for the immune system I talked about echinacea, which is also a great herb to take for sneezing and other symptoms of allergies. But in this article I will discuss three other herbs that can also help with allergy and sinus issues.

If you suffer from sinusitis or other symptoms of sinus issues like headaches and congestion, try horseradish, or even wasabi. These spicy hot herbs are perfect for clearing the sinuses and thinning mucus. Within minutes of digesting either of these potent plants you will begin to breath easier. Both have antimicrobial qualities and can even be taken instead of antibiotics for sinus infections (of course you will want to check with your doctor before trying this remedy). The treatment using these herbs can be as simple as using some wasabi as a condiment with your meal, or doing the same with a horseradish paste. You may also be able to find capsules at your health foods store.

The Ayurvedic herb albizia is used for allergies and other allergy related illnesses like hay fever, hives and even asthma. Albizia helps to stabilize the release of histamines in the body, which helps to relieve the allergy symptoms (like sneezing and itching). Ask at your local health food store about this amazing herb.

If you suffer from hay fever then perilla is the herb for you. Perilla is an herb regularly eaten in Japan and can also be found under the names shisho and beefsteak plant. Its leaves and seeds are being studied as being a preventative for hay fever symptoms. It helps stop the sneezing, itching and watery, runny nose and watery eyes. Start taking 9g of this herb in capsule form about a month prior to hay fever seasons start, for best effect.

You don't have to suffer from seasonal allergy or sinus problems anymore, you can find new ways to combat them by using herbal remedies. But always make sure to check with your doctor before starting any new medications, even if they are OTC.
