Herbal Teas for Treating and Soothing IBS Symptoms

IBS also known as Irritable Bowel Disease can be a painful, dreadful, and embarrassing condition. It causes muscle spasms in the digestive tract, uncontrollable bowel movements, constipation, cramping, and bloody stools. There aren't many conventional treatments for controlling the disease, but there is a few natural remedies that do soothe and help treat this condition such as chamomile tea, ginger root tea, and peppermint tea.

For those of you who are not sure what IBS is it is a condition that causes uncontrollable bowel movements and inflammation in the digestive tract. However, what causes IBS is unknown. I can say from personal experience mine flares up more with stress and eating foods like tomatoes and grapefruits. Sometimes even drinking lemonade can cause flare ups for me. The symptoms of IBS are spasms in the digestive tract, uncontrollable bowel movements, constipation, cramping, fatigue, and bloody stools, but like I said you do not have to suffer from these symptoms.

I personally like drinking chamomile tea for treating IBS symptoms because it helps ease muscle spasms and stops the uncontrollable bowel movements from happening. It even works as a mild laxative when you add honey in it to help relieve constipation which is helpful in some IBS flare ups. The reason chamomile tea works so well for treating and soothing IBS is because it is mild sedative, relieves inflammation in the digestive tract and body, relieves anxiety and stress which can sometimes trigger IBS flare ups, and soothing a nervous tummy. The reason chamomile can relieve and help treat all of the IBS symptoms is because it contains an active chemical in it called bisabolo. The best time to drink chamomile tea during and IBS flare up is when you are beginning to feel cramps, muscle spasms, and uncontrollable bowel movements. You should drink as many cups of chamomile tea as need until all the IBS symptoms are relieved.

Ginger root tea is another herbal tea that is excellent for treating and soothing IBS symptoms. Ginger root contains natural oleoresins compounds in that are anti spasmodic and anti inflammatory. Ginger root also acts as a natural pain reliever. When IBS flares up with major spasms and cramping it is best to make a good cup of ginger root tea because it will help ease the pain and relieve the inflammation after about 1 cup of ginger root tea. For server cases it may take up to 2 or 3 cups. Ginger root tea is also good for relieving gas and bloating that is related with IBS. I personally like to drink it before a meal so I do not get the IBS symptoms that come after consuming a meal.

The last herbal tea to drink to help natural treat and soothe IBS symptoms is peppermint tea. Peppermint tea contains potent volatile oils in it that help relieve gas, heartburn, spasms, cramping, nausea, vomiting, stress, constipation, diarrhea, and digestive issues which are all symptoms relating to IBS. However, it is best to only drink 1 or 2 small cups of peppermint tea during IBS flare ups because too much peppermint tea could make IBS worse. You really have to use small doses of peppermint tea to help treat and soothe IBS symptoms properly, but peppermint tea does work wonders.

So the next time you have an IBS flare up you know some natural herbal teas to try to help try and treat and soothe those symptoms right away. You do not have to live uncomfortable with IBS and feel embarrassed anymore. I hope these natural treatments help soothe your IBS symptoms right away during flare ups.
