Presidential Trivia for Herbert Clark Hoover Sr, Thirty First President of the United States

The 31st our only Iowan president,
Herbert Hoover of German Swiss descent
His father was Jesse, Hulda, his mom
He was an orphan at the age of nine.

Living with a grandmother, that didn't last
Then lived with an uncle for a year and a half
From there, he lived with his uncle John.
One year before, had lost his own son.

Worked with his uncle in the real estate pool
Bookkeeping, and typing, he got in night school.
Entered Stanford University at age seventeen,
Made student manager of two sports teams.

Graduated at twenty one with a geology degree
Soon a famous mining company employee.
At the young age of only twenty three years,
He was a geologist, and a mining engineer.

Married Lou Henry, his Stanford sweetheart
They had two sons, Allen, and Herbert Clark
He worked as China's leading engineer,
So he and his family had to move there.

Fluent in Chinese, both he and his spouse
They used this language in the White House.
No one else there could understand a word,
So they had no fear of being over-heard.

Herbert Hoover had an unusual manner,
But he approved the Star Spangled Banner.
Our thirty first president died in 1964,
He lived to see five presidents more
