Herbs to Avoid During Pregnancy - Many women would like to go as natural as possible during there pregnancy, hoping that it will be better for the baby. Sometimes this will work out wonderful, but there are also some herbs that are harmful to your unborn baby. Before taking any herbs during your pregnancy you should always consult your physician. These are just a few of the many herbs that are harmful to a women during her pregnancy.

Black Cohosh- This herb can cause premature contractions

Blue Cohosh- This herb is a uterine stimulant

Aloe Vera-This herb causes severe uterine contractions

Caffeine- Caffeine in soda, tea and coffee can cause high blood pressure

Golden Seal- Taking this herb during pregnancy can lead to premature labor or miscarriage

Castor oil-This herb causes severe diarrhea which can cause uterine contractions

Licorice- This herb can cause high blood pressure

Barberry-This is an herb that stimulates your uterus which can cause premature contractions

Cumin Seed or Powder- This herb can causes premature labor or even miscarriage

Pennyroyal- Taking this herb can Cause Birth defects

Although there are quite a few herbs that are harmful to a woman while she is pregnant. There are also quite a few herbs that are safe for a woman during pregnancy. Again you should always speak with your physician before taking anything during your pregnancy. These herbs can also help a woman with certain issues in her pregnancy.

Red Raspberry leaf - Taking this herb during your pregnancy can help to increase milk production and also help ease labor pains.

Oatstraw- This herb is very high in calcium and also helps sooth nerves.

Vitamin B-6- Taking this herb can help relief morning sickness. ( which I took during my last pregnancy for my horrible morning sickness. It really did help.)

Ginger- Taking this herb can also helps reduce morning sickness

Nettle- This herb is very high in iron content. This herb is also good for an extra boost of energy.

Some herbs can do wonders for you during your pregnancy and there are others that can be extremely harmful to you and your unborn baby. These are just a few of the good and bad herbs that are out there, there are many more just make sure you are always contacting your physician about what herbs you are going to take.
