Herbs for Health - Use Holistic Medicine to Promote Health
Herbs Can Be Used to Promote Health, Along with Modern Medicine
Bruises and Wounds
Comfrey can be used as a poltice over bruises and wounds. The Allantoin in Comfrey increases the growth and multiplication of cells aiding the healing process. Comfrey also has mild anti-bacterial qualities. To make a poltice pulverize the fresh leaves in a blender and apply to the skin.
Circulation
I am always cold, I could wear a sweater and socks even in summer. So when I heard that a cup of Ginger Tea would increase my circulation and have a lasting warming effect I had to give it a try. I was thrilled to find that the Ginger Tea does in fact have a wonderful warming effect. Ginger also soothes indigestion and decreases flatulence.
Pink Eye
Goldenseal has been claimed to have some astounding properties, many of which are have been exagerated or shown to be unfounded. However for Pink eye and mild eye inflamation a Goldenseal eyewash can be quite effective. Steam a cup of Goldenseal Tea, let the tea cool completely, then using a sterile eye cup rinse the eye(s) with the tea.
Ulcers and Arthritis
Licorice is an amazing herb that has been shown to help heal ulcers and reduce inflammation. Licorice can be taken in capsule form or drunk as a tea. There is little risk of toxicity, but moderation is key. Cardic patients and pregnant women should avoid Licorice.
Diabetes
Sage can be used by diabetics and those that show pre-diabetes symptoms. Work with your doctor to find a balance between your insulin and the sage. There are many studies that prove that sage can be used to lower blood sugar.
As with any diet changes please consult your doctor before using any of the above herbs.
