Eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains is the best way to get natural fiber in your diet. If your diet consists of a lot of meat products, fats and dairy products you are setting yourself up for disaster and a lot of problems with constipation.
Tea is another cause of constipation. If you drink a lot of tea you should cut back to get your system regulated. The tannins in tea hold back bowel movements. Tea is a good choice if you suffer diarrhea, but is not good for constipation.
There are tons of fiber rich foods you can eat and enjoy. They include almonds, apples, avocados, dates, figs, flaxseed, grapes, mangos, soybeans, turnips and walnuts. If you eat these foods and still suffer from constipation, another natural treatment is prunes and prune juice.
Prunes contain a lot of vitamin A, dietary fiber, potassium and copper. They are also a good source of beta-carotene and anti-oxidants. The fiber in prunes is good for regularity, lowering cholesterol, helping with intestinal problems, normalizes blood sugar levels and can help aid in weight loss. Prunes also help with your iron absorption which can help increase your energy levels if you are anemic and prunes have also been found to be a good choice for eye health and macular degeneration.
Rhubarb is another good laxative but can be very powerful so be careful when taking it.
One of the best sources for overall health and something that can help alleviate constipation is drinking plenty of water. Are you getting your eight glasses a day? If not, you should start. It could help with your problems of constipation.
Remember that a poor diet is the leading cause of constipation and a host of other problems too. Be sure to eat right, get plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink eight glasses of water each day.
